Leadership Seeks Leaders to Lead

Whether you are part of a small business or a global enterprise, the need to move projects, business and success forward is a top priority each and every day.

Often times the bigger the project or company, the slower that progress can feel, sometimes making it hard to know if you are on the right track.

This is the point where I often see individuals and companies get stuck.

They take a project to a certain point and then they wait. But the question is…

What are they waiting for?

In my experience, this is where leadership is sought out. As if everyone involved in the project turns to one another and says…”Okay, we have come this far, who is going to tell us how we are doing and what to do next?”

Here is a little secret if this is you…

More often than not, this type of guidance isn’t going to show up. In fact, the expectation (whether you know it or not) is if you are the one or part of the team that is dedicated to getting the job done then that is precisely what you should do.

Therefore waiting for leadership isn’t an option.

So here is another question…Why do people take projects and initiatives to a certain point and then wait for feedback?

Is it because we are unsure of ourselves and the work we have done or is it because we are looking for someone to pat us on the back and tell us that we are doing a good job?

Perhaps we believe that if we re-engage our management into our work that we will make them feel more involved.

Want another little secret that a lot of managers are thinking?

If we are worth a salt as leaders we will have put you in a position to succeed and one of the things we look for more than anything is people that can just get the job done.

Being Your Own Leader To Realize The Fruits Of Your Labor

If you want to be recognized and seen as someone that can lead, then don’t wait for leadership to hold your hand or green light your progress.

This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t report and stay engaged per the expectations of your boss.

What this does mean is that emerging leaders and those that will be seen as “The Future” by any organization are those that can just get things done. This leads to an interdependent relationship between those that do and those that lead. A relationship that yields more progress and less waiting.

In today’s fast paced business world leadership isn’t going to stop and take you by the hand and tell you what to do next.

While these expectations aren’t always set as clearly as they should be, this is an absolute truth. So grab the bull by the horns and quit waiting for leadership. You may be surprised by how much more you will get done individually and as a team when you remove an obstacle that was never really there.
