I’ve had the awesome opportunity of being an early adopter and power user of two of the biggest trending apps of 2015.  I jumped on Meerkat only days after it was released and was able to leverage it while at SXSW and Social Media Marketing World, where I was also at when Periscope made it’s debut.  As a blogger, podcaster, video blogger and speaker this media isn’t new for me not to mention my mantra is “Talking Fast Tweeting Faster!”  Since these apps have taken the social media world by storm I’ve had the opportunity to be guests on podcasts, be interviewed by news stations, consult and provide strategy for large brands and also lock in some speaking opportunities around the use of video for engagement, employee advocacy and storytelling.Screen Shot 2015-05-05 at 4.56.26 PM

The podcast links and blog posts I’ve written about these tools over the last couple months are listed below but ultimately as you’ll hear on the podcasts and in the blog posts I’ve been refusing to answer the question I’m asked the most:

Which is better Meerkat or Periscope?

Why haven’t I answered this question??  I believe it’s too early for us to determine a winner, but more importantly as someone that has live streamed 100+ times on each app… I LIKE THEM BOTH!!

So although I understand the need for every blog post to contain things like: “Meerkat vs Periscope” or “Is Meerkat Dead” for me the competition and unique makeups of both companies only means that they will innovate faster making the ultimate winner, us the users.

So as you’ll see in this slide deck which I’ve given to two different audiences via webinar, I focus more on understanding exactly what is “Mobile Live Broadcasting” while presenting the features, benefits and use cases for both of these apps.  The key for me is less about the technology and more about having a strategy and philosophy for embracing them and engaging with your community.  Apps and technology will constantly change but those brands and leaders who understand what it means to engage, create great content and the power of video will be able to jump between apps or like me find value on both apps.
What is Mobile Live Broadcasting? #Meerkat #Periscope Use Cases! from Brian Fanzo

In this presentation I share of my insights, lessons learned and favorite use cases. The focus of this presentation isn’t on periscopeco vs Meerkat rather what you need to know about each so you can test out each or figure out which is best for your audience. I presented this for a special private webinar for this new society today on Mobile Live Broadcasting highlighting tips, tricks and use cases for leveraging both Meerkat & Periscope.

The YouTube Video at the end,  I recorded it on May 3rd 2015 the day after the Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao fight.  On the video I share my thoughts on the rumors and unfortunate bad uses cases that happened during that fight while also explaining my “Think Like a Fan” strategy for brands to leverage both of these apps.
